Spectator sports are a cornerstone for entertainment in many cultures and countries worldwide. No sport shows a greater example of this than football, especially American football games. Football games are where two opposing teams play with a football and attempt to score as many points as possible for their team in a sixty minute period. The field where football games are played is one-hundred and twenty yards long, has two end zones on each side, each being the spot where the teams need to get to in order to score, and also contains a tall goal post at both ends of the field behind the end zone.
Each team sends out eleven players during the course of all football games, one team being offense and the other being defense. The offensive team controls the ball and scores either by letting a player with the ball run to the end zone or throwing it to another player so they can catch it in the end zone.
A touchdown is scored when a player with the ball makes it to the end zone, resulting in the team scoring six points, and one extra point if the kicker successfully kicks the ball between the goal posts immediately afterwards. After the kick, the team that just scored kicks the ball across the field to the other team, thus giving them a chance to score also. There have been football games where only one team scores touchdowns.
On the other side of football games, the defense is tasked with doing everything to stop the offense from scoring or preventing offensive players from getting anywhere. This goal is accomplished by a defensive player tackling an offensive one, and in doing this it allows the defense to stop an opponent from scoring for a play. In all football games, if the defense stops the offense from scoring after a number of tries and not gaining any ground, the offense is forced to kick the ball away to the other team, and once again the defense becomes the offensive team. This process goes on for sixty minutes during all football games, although some football games are played longer than others.
One benefit from watching football games is that it provides high levels of entertainment to all people, whether you're a fan of any team or not or even just a casual watcher. Along with this, football games give people something to talk about on a regular basis and finding some common ground so that someone ends up being a fan of a team. Another benefit of the sport is that the presence of a team in a city will bring in money to that city, because fans will travel great distances to see good football games.
Over the course of a typical season, football games will sell large amounts of tickets whenever they are played. This has resulted in football games becoming the most popular sport in American culture. Even high school football games attract a lot of watchers. Overall, football games bring in lots of excitement when being played, whether it is college, professional or arena football. Football games can be dramatic too, with a sense of anticipation for another good game.
